Job hunting is a battlefield. It’s a brutal, chaotic and imperfect process.
Traditional approaches to job interviewing are dead. If coasting through life binging on Netflix and working at Applebee’s sounds like your dream come true, stop reading now. This isn’t for you.
I’m going to go out on a limb and make a few assumptions. Ready for this? I’m going to assume you’re a smart, creative, educated individual. I’m going to assume you’re aware of the hundreds of thousands of smart, creative people are right now competing for your dream job.
Take a moment and soak that in.
So let me share with you some of my beliefs.
I believe you need to get out into the world and take a chance. Wayne Gretzky nailed it when he said, “You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.”
I believe your career will be a natural, healthy process of creation, discovery and re-discovery. And anyone selling you a promise of surefire fortune is selling you a hot turd in a golden box.
But most of all, I believe it is your responsibility to employ all the tools, resources, strategies, tactics, experiments and wild ideas you have at your disposal to accomplish 2 goals:
- TAKE OWNERSHIP of your unique attributes and use them strategically to stand out from your peers.
- PROVE TO EMPLOYERS the value you will bring to their company, tomorrow, 6 months and years from now.
These 2 goals form the foundation on which the Interview Action Kit is built.
Don’t get me wrong – this is an ambitious approach. So get your shit together! Be confident. Be assertive. And be a little arrogant. Just a little.
Ok, ready to take action? Let’s do this.
